What is the difference between solid and veneer wood?
Every Cherrywood table is handcrafted from solid hardwood — not veneer or manufactured material. A veneer is a thin slice of real, high-grade timber glued onto a core of particle board, MDF, or plywood to give the appearance of solid hardwood at a lower cost.
Solid wood is as stated, solid with many layers of high grade timber.
How does the custom furniture creation process work?
Every unique project begins with a personal conversation about your vision, your specific home or office space, and the design details you love. Once we outline your basic goals, you are invited to view our raw materials inventory. After finalizing the wood slab selection, base design, and edge configuration, we handcraft your bespoke piece in our workshop and manage the final safe delivery to your home or commercial space.
Can I personally choose the exact raw wood slab for my table?
Yes. We believe that selecting your raw lumber is the most rewarding part of the custom furniture journey. You can hand-select the exact log slab your table is built from. This allows you to choose the specific dimensions, grain configurations, visual character, natural imperfections, and live-edge profiles that best tell your personal story.
What types of wood do you use for your furniture?
We work exclusively with local Ontario hardwoods. Our inventory consists of premium native species including Black Walnut, White Oak, Sugar Maple, and White Ash. Most of our logs are salvaged from urban trees across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area that have reached the end of their life cycle due to storm damage, disease, or local development.
How long does a custom live-edge table take to complete?
Our typical workshop production timeline takes roughly 8 to 12 weeks from the date your raw wood slab is finalized and confirmed for production. However, the initial preparation phase is exceptionally slow and deliberate: many salvaged logs spend up to three full years slowly air-drying and kiln-conditioning onsite before they are stable enough to be worked with. We never rush this foundational stage.
How much does a custom dining table cost?

How do I care for my Cherrywood Studio furniture through seasonal changes?
Solid wood naturally expands and contracts with humidity.
For best results:

Avoid sudden humidity changes (e.g., placing right beside heating vents)
Small cracks or movement in the wood over time are normal and part of the natural aging of real hardwood.

What finishing product is used on your furniture? What if I need refinishing?
We finish our tables with a durable, natural oil finish called OSMO— not a plastic or chemical coating.

How should I clean and maintain my live-edge hardwood table daily?
For daily cleaning, simply use a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemical spray cleaners, silicone-based furniture polishes, or abrasive scrubbing pads, as these will gradually degrade or strip away our premium oil finishes over time. If you encounter sticky spills, a mild, pH-neutral soap mixed with warm water is perfectly safe. Always wipe the surface in the direction of the wood grain and dry the area completely afterward.
What happens if my hardwood table gets scratched or stained?
Because your table is crafted entirely from premium, solid Ontario hardwood rather than a thin commercial veneer, minor superficial scratches or stains can be repaired. Minor scuffs can often be buffed out or spot-repaired by applying a thin layer of hard-wax oil directly to the affected area without needing to refinish the entire tabletop. For deep scratches or severe accidental damage, solid hardwood can easily be structurally sanded and completely refinished back to its original condition.
Why do small cracks or subtle seasonal movements appear in the wood over time?
Solid wood remains a natural, organic material that reacts dynamically to its environment. Subtle movements, minimal expansions, or tiny hairline checks are completely normal characteristics of owning an authentic live-edge piece. To minimize wood movement, maintain a stable indoor environment with a relative humidity level between 35% and 45% all year round. Avoid placing your furniture directly adjacent to forced-air heating vents, active fireplaces, or all-day intense direct sunlight. Embrace these perfect imperfections as a reflection of a tree that once lived.
Do you deliver and install?
Yes. We handle delivery and installation throughout Canada and internationally. Shipping is evaluated case-by-case and is influenced by destination, table size and weight.
Do you offer returns?
As every Cherrywood Studio piece is custom-built, all orders are final once production begins. We work closely with you during design to ensure everything is perfect before construction starts.
